A friend asked for some help getting his graphics card working on his computer and I discovered a situation that makes no sense at all to me.
First, if you use the integrated graphics (radeon 3000 series) on the motherboard you get a picture, if you use the graphics card (a radeon 5450) you get a black screen.
I first checked to make sure it's seated correctly and his PSU is sufficient and it is.
I figured maybe it's probably a driver issue, so I checked device manager and windows (he's on windows 10) sees the hardware believes it has the drivers for them, however dxdiag reports that the microsoft basic display adapter is being used. to add insult to injury amd's auto driver detection tool doesn't think he has any relevant hardware.
He claims that the card worked correctly at some point, but considering he didn't know it mattered if he plugged his monitor into the motherboard or the card I'm skeptical of this claim.
I'm at a total loss as to what's happening and totally out of ideas of things to try, any ideas?
