SDram speed calculations
PC100 comes in 10ns, (PC100-124)8.5ns,
PC133 7.5ns, (PC133-143)7ns, (6ns new)
ns = nanoseconds = 1e-9
Frequency(Hz) = 1/Time(s)
therefore 10ns = 100Mhz is calculated from (1/(10*1e-9))/1e6
1e6 is to convert hz to Mhz, M=mega=1e6
therefore 7.5ns = 133.33Mhz, while 7ns = 142.8Mhz
when possible always use something that gives you headroom, for more than 100% reliability and overclocking.
CAS-.....many type, in simple they are all LATENCY, the less the better. Usual is 3, faster is 2.
Make sure you have say 7ns, CL2 for PC133
or 7.5ns, CL2
although latency of 2 to 3 is only 1 clock, but since they are transfering hundreds per second, therefore each second will have unnecesary hundreds of cycle delay.
A fast car can always run slower !!!
It is unknown if 7ns CL3 beats 7.5ns CL2. No one have carry out this comparison.
Best regards
