Batman Arkham City GOTY Save and GFWL Pop-up Problem

So I recently installed Batman Arkham City GOTY. I've been experiencing this problem which is very common. But for some reason I am not able to find a fix for this. Watched many tutorials on YouTube but it didn't help. The game doesn't save my progress as it is supposed to do. I think this happens because Games For Windows Live doesn't pop-up in the game. I don't know why this is happening. I tried reinstalling the game and GFWL but the problem still persists.

When I try to open GFWL separately, it gives me a connection error (with the options for troubleshooting, etc). It should show the Log-in screen, but it doesn't. I also tried to do this : http://steamcommunity.com/app/200260/discussions/0/43099721470680130/ but it didn't help.

I know this is an old game and that's the reason why people are not responding on some forums. That's why I'm asking here. Please tell me how to fix it.

How did you acquire your copy of the game?

GFWL has been shut down. If you bought a secondhand copy of the game, chances are it isn't the latest version, without the GFWL requirements. See if you can manually download the latest patch for the game and install it; hopefully that'll fix your issue.
