Hi guys, I was just wondering whether anyone had any advice or personal experience with multiple batteries failing in a laptop. It's a 2015 purchase, so has seen plenty of use and the charger is also aftermarket due to the original HP one failing years ago. I have installed 3 different aftermarket batteries from different sellers (HP doesn't seem to sell originals any more), and they all end up doing the same thing after a few months. They will start charging (solid orange indicator) for a few minutes but then the charging symbol in windows will disappear and it will change to a solid white indictor. This will just keep happening until the charge runs down completely, whether the laptop is running or not.

If I remove the battery, the laptop will run on the aftermarket charger without an issue. The first replacement (£40) lasted a few months and they took a return, the second (£60) one lasted just under a year, and the third was £30 but only lasted about 2 months. I have never experienced this before and am unsure if it is a problem with the charging circuitry on the MB or just incredibly bad luck or I'm just being a thicko. I ran the HP diagnostic tool on the second battery and it indicated that one of the cells wasn't holding charge but the other 2 were fine. Battery model is VR03XL.

Thanks in advance,
J

This is exactly what you can expect to happen when you do not use the OEM batteries. The aftermarket manufacturers do not conform to the OEM specs and quality is literally all over the place.
