battery does not hold charge

does date and clock get it power from main battery or is there an other battery in side the computer i have a satellite

On a desktop system, it's the 2032 battery on the motherboard.
Laptops sometimes use an undocumented capacitor to hold the charge so that it is not easy for unscrupulous people to reset the bios and gain entry into the laptop.
