"Battery not detected" still runs off battery power but doesnt charge

My situation is kinda weird. I've had my Dell Inspiron 3567 for about 8 months now. A few days ago, i left in on my desk charging. When i returned to it, i found one of my younger siblings with the battery in hand (presumably he unlatched it from the pc). I frantically attempted to reseat the battery and upon doing so i hear a spark and my laptop immediately shuts down. I thought i smelled a little burning so i let the laptop rest for a day or two as i was afraid to see what had happened to my relatively new laptop (i mean, it hasn't bee a year since i've gotten it). I decided to put it on yesterday and found that the fan started and stops three times, each time showing three slowly blinking white lights before booting. When it does boot, it shows 4 amber lights and one white light repeatedly. In windows it says "no battery detected".

What's strange is that when i plug out the ac adapter it continues run on battery power but still shows "no battery detected" the battery also doesn't charge in the laptop. (im going to attempt to charge it in another).

Whats also strange is that the laptop refuses to turn on without a battery within in it.
Ive tried various methods to resolve this issue including replacing the CMOS battery and resetting the bios. I believe this is a hardware issue. Any advice?

Update: I have charged the battery in another laptop, still holds charge
