Hi, i just wanted to inform those who are planing to get bf2142 that the game comes with spyware in it(ea actualy claims its incorporated in to the game, and not as a separate spyware software), the spyware will detect ur IP, to get ur pc's location in order to use ur internet browsing history (which will be recorded) to enable advertising in the game, so not only ea will know ur browsing history, ur IP, but it also reserves rights to get "other information" from the users(there is an actual note in the box that states this)

I was so hyped about this game, but his was teh reason i canceled my preorder, and besides, i was dissapointed in the game overal, which is yet another MOD 🙁

I agrie i preordered the game, but after playing the demo i canceled my preorder, it seamed to me that 2142 was just a mod of bf2, but isomewhat wanted to get it anyway, but after geting the inof on this spyware i decided not to get it, furthermore ea released info on their forums that contradicted the information which was released in the litle note that is in the box, they "changed" the info in their posts which to me is realy pathetic, that ea is trying to "clean its name" with just more lies, i had a ling to the exact text that is printed on the note ill have to look for it, but basicaly in th enote it states that the spyware will have acces/will be able to comunicate with ea whenever a user just conects to the net, and in ea's post on their forums they said that the software only will comunicate with ea "only" when the game is run, which to me is one bull(sorry for the language) but it just seams to me that greedy ea just overdid it this time by a mile with their greed. 🙁

Its just ridiculous that they include that in the game. I could maybe see a monthly update that changed the ingame advertising but for them to watch your browsing habits, there is no excuse for that.

i agrie , cool a petition but honestly i think even if ea decided to take the spyware out in anyway (disactivate it) i would not buy bf2142 im planing to get ghost recon for $25 and enjoy it lol (hope itll b eworth it) and besides this i doubt that il ever buy another ea game(and i ws so hyped about crysis 🙁, oh well i wont get it then 🙁 )

Don’t you think you’re over reacting just a little bit? It’s not like they have had sexual intercourse with your mother or anything is it? Does it really mean that much to you that EA have tried out a new advertising effort in a game you wanted to buy? Do you hate them so much that you will spit in their face and never buy another one of their products ever again?

To illuminatirex: a simple "yes" or "no" to answer the above will suffice. Freedom of speech is one thing but I'm getting tired by reading the same stuf over and over again. Of course if you can turn this around into something interesting, be my guest.

hm..over reaacting no i doubt it, i was honestly lookiing forward to 2142, but i was disapointed, not at first by the spyware, (i didnt know about it before) but by how low ea got, honestly can we even have one (1) game by ea that was actualy finished? without bugs? not to mention their ridiculus "advertising effort", honestly i do not understand why people defend ea(i mean ok i admit i know there many fanboys, that even if they know they are wrong will not admit to it...im not necessarely talking just this case), it is us consumers that are loosing here, first off, (ok maby this might be "just my oppinion"...but) do those that played bf2 and know about 2142 dont u guyz think this is just another mod, but for which we have to pay, secondly, the advertizing, i admit ea "just tries" to get more $$, but come one, ea charges their consumers a regular price, and includes adverts in the game(this is usually done in freeware, shareware, and after registering/paying it dissapears) third: the spyware issue, com on ea this is a bit over the top here, seriously, if anything i would agrie more with something of the lines of ea geting those "contracts" of companies to be fetured in the game(adverts that is) and lets say with a every couple leveld new comercials load up(or would be already loaded, on the cd) but spying on us, and geting our own information, and online activities? com on, even the greatest ea fan has to admit (atleast to himselfe, if he/she has a bit of braincels there)that this is just over the top
not to mentione the "other information", and geographical location localization using the IP.

ok lol this should do it 😉 lol, and as a gamer honestly not only to ea but any other company that would do this(and does) this is just pusing it to far guyz, we know u are greedy, but this is just ridiculus.

darn i forgot to use paragraphs...lol sorry

So much for the yes or no answer

You say fan boys stick up for this game but I am clearly not a fan boy. If you where to say to me the Battle Field engine is crap and the net code was a pile of steaming monkey excrement, then I would have to agree. But the fact still remains while it is a very badly made game it is more than playable as well as the fact that there is nothing in direct competition to show us how it should be done.

As for this game being a simple mod, I believe it is more than that. You can see the game is evolving, becoming more complex and the engine is becoming more refined and stable. But I must say if you’re after a totally different game from Battle Field 2 then this is not it as it still has the combat characteristics of the original. But after pay the game all weekend, and still not even noticing one advert. I have to say this game is much more playable and fun, and much better all round feel to it than that of it’s predecessor.

In my eye’s putting off this game for some apparent spy ware is just not justified to me. But I do understand some people do have big morel issues with companies spying on what they do on their PC. But I see it as nothing new, as it happens in life all the time. But anyway as Mr Mc Donald’s fan stated, things are starting to get a bit repetitive.

Long story put in short I believe that this is no big deal since the advertising does not get in the way of the game what so ever to the point where you can spend tens of hours with out seeing one. And spy ware has become such a common thing nowadays that it really does not put me off. Better in the hands of EA than someone after my credit card details I say.

Have a read of that and tell me, will you get Battle Field 2142 now that you know this whole spy ware thing is a load of crap? I knew this was all being blown out of complete proportion, it’s amazing what speculation can turn in to.

Guess I was right after all huh…

Well got it last night and played it for a few hours, never even seen one advert what so ever. As for the spy ware… there is nothing that runs it’s self on the system and on top of that I am told that all the ‘apparent’ spy ware does is report back to the company that is doing all the advertising about how long you looked at the advert or if you looked at them at all.

is that reply adressed to me? if yes , then I will still say NO, nO bf2142 for me, btw that article didnt exaplain anything(nor did the links in it) its the same thing i red from ea in their "explanation" and i do not believe it, althou i liked teh cartoon in the linq :) 😉 , i mean i believe aditional data regarding teh "viewing" will be collected, but im more conserned what else? 😉, i found out about medieval2 total war, and im planing to spend my $50 on that game, (it has no spyware  ), and honestly i did say im not geting more ea games, so even thou i will regreat not geting 2142, and crysis, im shoor ill get over it 😉, knowing that ea lost a customer(and not only me  ), i stand by my word

lol btw what rank did u reach? 😉

Never play games long enough to get anywhere near that level… Ask the sad job seekers that play the game 24/7. They will get there after about 10 weeks to constant play.

I don’t really pay attention to the scoreboards anyway since they take no skill to get anywhere on them, all you need to do is loose your job and play solid for a few months and you will get near the top. I think they should make the new scoreboards go by kill to death ratios and such.

But anyway your making me go in to a rant over something you have no interest in.

true 😉, lol I was just curious, im not much of a scorekeeper anyway if it comes to games, i just ususally play games just for teh fun of playing, to spent my spare time nicely, or do other things
