Battlefield 4 crash in Win 8.1?

I upgraded from windows 7 to 8.1 but now the game crashes after various times.

try running it in compatibility mode for windows 7, bf4 does have a lot of problems due to *cough* origin *cough* 5 people in my college have all had crashes due to either compatibility issues (they ended up installing w7 and it fixed it) or hardware problems, some were on amd chips and the game didnt like it and some changed the settings to lower and it didnt crash, can you play smaller maps fine or do you crash straight away?
