Hello everyone!
I just bought myself a crossfire pc and now battlefield 4 crashes between the loading screen and spawning.
My old pc handled the game just fine, no crashes or freezes, that pc had a gtx 770, i'm now running two r9 280x's in crossfire.
Does anyone know a fix?

Ok, this is what I'd suggest. Remove one of the cards and run those titles with only a single card installed. If the games still crash, swap cards and try again. If there are no crashes with one of the cards removed but it still crashes when that card IS installed, the card is bad, which is what I suspect is the issue. If it still crashes regardless of which card is installed, then it's likely you have either a motherboard issue, need to reinstall the OS for whatever reason (These things happen. Sometimes a clean install is simply the only way to cure what ails you.) or you have a problem with one of your memory modules. I'm doubting it's memory since it doesn't do it on other applications or in windows general use, only during games...

Because bf4 isn't working i decided to play deadspace 3 with a friend and guess what, coöp doesn't work because of the origin in game overlay that f**ks up :pfff:
also, embedding a picture doesn't seem to work either so i'll just post the link http://gyazo.com/0e011670fc061fbbb583e1b3d4534180

Note: cpuid shows a single 7970 as my gpu but i have 2 280x's

Well, GPU-Z shows dual cards with crossfire enabled. And your system voltages all look ok.

How about another screenshot of the system voltages section with the system under load. Try downloading and running Furmark and take another snapshot of the voltages in HWinfo. Nice job on that by the way. Exactly what was needed.

sry for the slow response, i just played some borderlands coöp cause it works xd ea should learn from valve because steam works flawlessly for me :)

Well, the voltages still look good except that the 5v sensor reading was cut off in that screenshot so I can't comment on it's value, which may be relevant to the GPU so I'd run furmark again and see what that value is. Other than that it looks good and the GPU utilization shows both cards ARE working normally so there's no issue with that. I think this is likely to either be a driver issue or related to poor optimization in the game code for crossfire. That's pretty doubtful since BF4 is highly optimized for amd cards. I think this is most likely related to the drivers still being present from the old installation. Do the clean install using the display driver uninstaller.

Okay, thanks! I'll do a clean install when i get out of school tomorrow, i really hope this solves my problem!
And because it maybe a driver related problem i can sort of understand why my whole pc freezes when i try to play battlefield, the only thing i can do in those moments is to just hold the power button and do a restart that way :s

I'd also run Memtest86 to test your modules, since it freezes and that may be a sign of memory errors. If you do, be sure to test modules individually to avoid false errors and allow it to run for seven passes per module. This will take a lot of time, so plan to be without the unit for several hours when you do so.

Okay, i'll launch memtest before i go to school so it should be done when i get back home :)

I did a clean driver installation and the game lasted longer than before but after about 1 or 2 minutes my pc froze again...
i did encounter the same issue with the game lichdom battlemage but that game took much longer to crash.
maybe it is an directx11 problem because both of those games use dx11 but games like borderlands 1 and 2 don't.
i also forgot to run memtest so i'll try to run it tomorrow.

Solution

I'll try it right now, but it would be kind of odd if this would be the reason because other games like metro 2033, rift, borderlands 1 and 2 work 100% normal, no crashing or bad performance.

Well i tested my first card and it crashed before the loading screen opened so i launched bf4 again and then it worked fine.
with my second card i used mantle and it crashed mid-game but my pc didn't freeze, instead i got this message: http://gyazo.com/15c964f2e808b04c2b62dd2aad7a0444
i'm gonna try my second card with dx11 and if it crashes again, well... rip second 280x :'(

Yup... the second card is dead 🙁 it has major artifacts and a verry low framerate, no crashes though.
uhhh now i will have to go through the RMA process to get a second working one xd

I had that feeling. At least you know what the issue is now, and can play without the trouble. I would recommend however, that you take the time to go through the process of running the DDU using the AMD option again, and then reinstall the Omega drivers. Sometimes when there is a faulty card, strange crap happens during or after the drivers installation routine due to the card. At least this way you eliminate that possibility.

I'd also make sure I had the very most recent bios. What is your motherboard and CPU model numbers? If it's an AMD based chipset, I'd also install the AMD chipset/sata/usb driver package that can be found on the same page as the AMD Omega catalyst drivers on the greyed out tab next to the drivers that says optional downloads. If you have an Intel CPU I'd make sure I had the most recent Intel drivers as well. They can also affect GPU function since the chipset drivers directly relate to PCIe functions.

I only suggest these options since you indicated you still had a few issues even with the single card.

Thanks for the tips, my cpu is an intel core i5 2500k and my mobo is an msi Z77A-G45.
Just to be sure, when a card had artifact problems like mine there is no possibility of fixing that with any kind of software right?
