I'm not too much into PSUs to be honest, but the lowest G2 I can find goes for 750W, which is quite a lot of headroom for a 7970, and is a rated for 80+ Gold. Provided he has the money to afford it, I don't see why he shouldn't buy it. Should be a nice "future-proofer" for the 7970 and anything he might get in the future. However, it would be overkill should he want to stay with a 7970 for a long time.

A Bronze is much more affordable and can run as long as a Gold rated one with enough headroom and "well-keeping". My previous Corsair (not so sure anymore, I think it was a GS600) ran for 4 years powering an i5 2500 and an HD 6870. It can still run, but I got a 290x and decided to get something with more headroom :3
Other than the fact I'm surprised a 7970 with a 1GB VRAM capacity, the CPU might bottleneck it a little. The PSU isn't even rated 80+ Bronze and is under requirements for a 7970 I think...

You might keep the CPU, and run BF4 without too much issues at 1080p, medium/high settings (could run higher if you had more VRAM).
But I'd honestly get rid of that power supply ASAP and get a better one. Anything from Corsair, Seasonic, Antec or Cooler Master, between 500W and 600W at least and rated for 80+ Bronze will be much better than that...

What about one of the EVGA G2 PSUs?

I see, they are pretty pricey and 750w is pretty overkill lmao. Good points, all of them.
