Hello forum community. I have recently bought Battlefield 4 for my pc in the hopes that i'd be able to run it without FPS lag (even at low graphics) but i have been proven wrong. My specs are the following:

Intel Xeon X3360 Quad Core @ 2.83GHz (Not OC)
ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB
4GB DDR2 ram (Dual channel)
ASUS P5Q SE Mobo
1920x1080 resolution monitor
Windows 8 x64bit

My friend has a 6-core cpu @ 3.2GHz (Can't remember the name) along with 16GB of ram and his graphics card is Radeon HD 5770 1GB, which is a bit less efficient than mine. He can run Battlefield 4 quite smoothly at Medium settings, where as I have FPS lag with everything low & off. My question is:
If I upgrade my ram to 8GB will I be able to run Battlefield 4 smoothly on low settings or is the issue on my CPU, or both? I know my specs are old i've had this rig for about 5 years.

Thank you for reading this, cheers.

Good news, I've rechecked my drivers again and my graphics card's were up to date, but my chipset's one weren't, which is weird but anw. I've updated them, installed .net framework again, directx again etc, restarted my pc and surprisingly I've been able to play on low settings (Haven't tried medium yet) very smoothly! My average FPS should have been about 45-50 FPS which is really good for me! I'm gonna try again tonight and see how things go, I'll let you know. Thank you all for your help! 😀
It is out of date that's for sure, im just wondering if changing my RAM will give me enough boost to run it at let's say average 40 fps or at least without lag on low settings.

EDIT: I also meet all of the minimum requirements for the game so i thought i was supposed to at least be able to run it on everything low & off (that's my current settings)

Maybe pairing another module of 4 gigs you get a little perfomance boost(due to the dual channel) but beware opf ddr2 prices specially on 1 x 4 GB.

Try the oc , monitor temps (I suppose you have a good cooler) , and tell us . Update also chipset drivers etc. but as you said you are up to date . Maybe disable antialiasing , shadows and stuff like that .

Seen on reddit "Updating everything to do with .net framework and DirectX via windows update solved all my issues(low fps on bf4)."

And take a look at this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_F6i2-Gnbg

GL and keep my updated 😀

ok markaflias im gonna try checking all the drivers again etc. and i'll let you know ;p
@spentshells that's what i was thinking as well.. what kind of other problems though?
