Hi,

I have searched the internet for answers but don't seem to be able to find my. My problem is that my BD drive does not read all DVD's. It reads some with no problem at all but others it just fails to recognize almost all the time. I have 3 DVD's that I am using to test this, all 3 are PC Games, 1 (FM2013) reads perfectly well, but the other 2 rarely, if ever, read (Skyrim & Settlers 7). They have read once which was good enough for me to install the games.

The drive is a Slimtype BD DS6E2SH, the laptop is a Samsung Series 7 Gamer (2 weeks old). I'm running Windows 7.

I have already tried to uninstall the driver and re-install it and I've tried the Microsoft DVD drive fix it tool.

Hope someone can suggest something else.

Its not the end of the world but it is incredibly frustrating as I don't really want to send the laptop back

2 questions:

1- Did you look for a firmware upgrade?

2- Did you test the DVDs in another system? Could be a bad media.

If the laptop is still under warranty it would be a good time to have the optical drive replaced before the situation gets worst.

Or if you want to live with it and the problem is not a bad media, you could copy the DVD to an .iso on another system and read it with Daemon tools on the laptop. Not the best situation, but if it's only for installation it's not as if you need the DVD everyday.

I have checked both of those, and unfortunately the discs work fine in another machine and there isnt a firmware upgrade. Thanks for the suggestions though.

I think i'm going to have to get the drive replaced, didn't really want to have the whole laptop replaced as I've installed everything i need on it now.

Might try the workaround for the time being, better than nothing.
