"More secure" and "using C" seems like an oxymoron to me.

New doesn't mean better; all these libraries have to go through the fire of the real world and come out the other side before people should take a chance on them. While I would like to pull openssl from my projects, I won't until I'm confident I'm replacing it with something better.

People who vote you down, don't understand security and programming.
I'm more interested in : who wrote the code, who went through it, from where did they commit, what are they associations?
NSA has leaked in weak-math into crypto FOSS before.
It would be ideal (for them) if they got their code into whatever becomes the next FOSS crypto library.
