Hello and thank you. HP Z4000. I upgraded my power supply from stock to a gamemax 600. 4 beeps after start up with only the 24pin atx plugged in after trying to rule out. CMOS was completely reset. Battery out, button etc.... Still beeping.
I put the old power source back in and all was fine. The whole CMOS rigamarole obviously came up but all perfect.
Incompatible power source maybe ? Such a thing ? No clue here. Hopefully I’m just missing something stupid.

Solution
That's because your HP needs a proprietary connector that an off the shelf ATX PSU doesn't have.

Seriously: Take your garbage Gameass PSU and put it side by side with the HP PSU and see how the connectors/wire-colors are different.
I agree above.

HP workstations use proprietary motherboards. Try to find an adapter for your particular system on eBay.

Many of these HP workstations actually have decent 80+ bronze delta units. These probably are better than your Gamemax PSU, as Gamemax PSUs are generally rubbish.
