Befriend cops?

I'm well on my way to achieve my ultimate goal of having households of 8
maids, 8 bartenders, 8 exterminators, 8 firefighters, etc (I'm weird in that
way) 😛

I'm having a hell of a time though trying to befriend cops and have them
move in. If I phone them when there's no emergency, pause the game as soon
as the cop shows up, and then stack up all the "talk" actions I can until
the queue is full, I'm just fined the $500 and the cop disappears. All my
'talk' actions are cancelled, and the cop isn't added to that sim's
friend/acquaintance list so I can't phone/invite him back.

I tried throwing parties (starting late at night), but most of the time that
the cop *does* bother to show up, he gets to the door, then just disappears
(again, before my first 'talk' action is triggered). I say "most of the
time", because I somehow managed to get a cop added to my list (twice)
before he just walked away, but that's it. I read on this group that cops
will ignore you and walk away if the sim hosting the party is a mayor, but I
have none--he still walks away nonetheless.

Once I have a cop added to the list, I have no problem phoning him
repeatedly, becoming friends, and then having him/her move in...the problem
is having cops added to the list at all. Throwing parties (when the cop
will only show up one time out of 10) is tedious at best, and calling
without emergencies never seems to work.

As for burglars, I haven't found a reliable way to have them show up so the
cop would follow shortly.

Is there a failsafe method to have cops start talking to you?

I don't think so. Occasionally they will show up in community lots,
along with the other service NPCs. But that's very rare, too.

Hire eight sets of Village People impersonators for your party.
Befriend the cops in each group and drown the rest in the pool. Problem
solved. ;-)

I had the same problem - so I cheated. There are several teleporter type
objects available at MTS2 and I teleport people over when I want to meet
them for the first time. The problem is that you cannot identify the type of
NPC a person is before they turn up - so you have to wade through everybody
whose name you don't recognise.

Scout the NPCs with SimPe. Bring a notepad.

I was trying this last night too. After my Sim phoned in the fake emergency,
the cop lectured one of the householders, fined them $500 and left without
giving me the option to talk - but the cop was added to the acquaintance
list of the person she lectured, and so I can ring/email her. Maybe give it
another go?

If that doesn't work, try checking out the Legacy Challenge info on the
official site forums. Surely some of the people there have discussed how to
meet the various NPCs.

I did, multiple times. I think the only time my 'talk' action has managed
to 'sneak in' was when I got a cop to show up during a party...never for a
fake emergency.

This will get tougher as it goes along. You may need to use a
teleporter before you finish.

Burglars can be summoned with a shift-click on the mailbox, if
you have "boolprop testingcheatsenabled true". Getting to meet
them once they show up is another problem.

Headmasters are fairly easy, but it will take a while. You need
to make all the headmasters join a house, then have a family with
kids still in public school.generate a new one.

Social workers -- can you meet them when you adopt a child? This
would work well with the headmaster project.

Drivers!!! You can't do drivers without using cheat objects.
However, a house of 8 drivers would probably generate lots of
Social Bunnies, which you could use to make a Bunny House.
Maybe the Driver House would also geerate therapists.

The Boss -- npc type 3 -- is generated when you call in sick.
I have never met one except by using the teleporter. Perhaps
there is a way, but I don't know how.
The Repo Man also cannot be interacted with, I think.

Stop right there, you scare me. 😛

I never even thought of most of the folks you mentioned... AFAIK you can't
even interact at all with the boss guy (other than calling in sick, which
doesn't add him to the acquaintance list), or drivers. Is it possible to
start talking at all to the burglars or social workers?

Finally, nannies and the repair guy/gal are all elders which, to me, is
pointless to have.

In my Pleasant Village Neighbourhood I overwrote the nanny and repairperson
files with clone files of the ancestors that I wanted to be repair or nanny
people. It worked fine. They can be any age and the overwriting with a clone
fixes the inappropriate skin problem you would normally get with simply
changing the age of these NPC's. Of course, once you marry or otherwise move
one of these NPC's into the neighbourhood they are replaced by elders.

Homer:
> Is it possible to start talking at all to the burglars or social
workers?

The expensive Prima Guide claims that you can meet a burglar by opening
the rear door of the police car after the burglar is captured. I
haven't gotten
it to work.

I'm pretty sure that I met a social worker when adopting a baby, but my

memory could be faulty.

Both burglars and social workers are normal once you've met them,
except
that in both cases you should not summon them to your house with a
teleporter -- they'll disable build/buy! It should be safe to invite
over by
phone, but if that causes problems then invite to community lot
instead.

You can't interact with drivers but they can interact with you.
However,
the only way to meet a driver is with a teleporter or perhaps by a
shift-click
on the mailbox; after that, you can sit in a hot tub and wait to be
joined, and
so you can make friends or best friends.

The next step, getting the driver to join a family, requires a
different cheat, and
so you can't make a Driver House without using at least two different
cheats.

A Burglar House or a Social-Worker House may be possible without
cheats.

The big problem is that burglars never show up. If you must shift-click
on the
mailbox to summon a burglar, then you've used a cheat, so why not just
put
a teleporter on a community lot, and use that to meet the burglar?

Well...as one might notice by my various posts, I stay away from any sort of
hack because I don't have much confidence in Maxis' code to properly handle
anything that's been modified.

No cheats on this end. If it can't be done without a cheat or a hack, I'll
do without.
