Hi
i currently have on-board sound card (C-Media Xear 3-D) which came with my ECS K7S5A motherboard.

Is it worthwhile my changing to a sound card? I mostly use my machince as my primary music player (evenything is on it) and hook it up to my hi-fi (although half the time i run it through the apple pro (off iMac) speaker - were a gift based on looks!

If so, what is a good card at a reasonable limited budget???

thanks people

I had onboard sound when I first got my new computer. Next day I bought a SB Live! I couldn't tolerate the poor sound quality the onboard had.

I would recommend getting a sound card. You might get better perfomance with a dedicated card, plus the sound quality will be much better.

A good budget card would be the SB Live!, but going with the Audigy would be better. In fact, the Audigy is probably not much more money.

Personally, I don't touch anything from Creative with a laser pointer. Look up Guillemot (I loved my Game Theatre XP 7.1, until it died - still haven't contacted Guillemot about RMAing it), M-Audio, or Terratec. Good brands, great sound.

are you satisfied with the sound coming from your onboard sound chip? That's the answer. If you are, then I dont see the point in upgrading. but, if you are not, then upgrade. It is a question of personnal taste.

Guillemot makes good products.
Also, Turtle Beach makes good inexpensive sound cards.
