Behind the times, where do I start?

I am building a new computer for gaming, blu-ray, and surfing. I need a monitor or TV to go with it.

MY current monitor is a 19" CRT. Can someone provide me with a link to something where I can learn what I need to be looking for , and what technology is available? There are so many different types I don;t know where to start.

Thank you

If you really want Blu-ray then get a player to connect to the HDTV. You will spend less money and have fewer hardware/software problems.

Many people, myself included, are skipping Blu-ray and going direct to HD streaming. Also, for renting movies, regular DVDs look good on my 42" plasma TV, and I am not buying into the home 3D craze for a long time. . .

Good point, I just figured a Blu-Ray drive would have been a simpler solution, maybe not so much.

Streaming would work for me as well. I don't have any desire to collect movie discs, I'd rather just watch one and move on. I'm not interested in 3D at this time. It seems like a sales gimmick to me, and hurts my eyes. If some people like it, then that's great, but it's not for me.

The adult in me thinks I should get a nice 24-30" monitor, while the kid in me wants something much larger. Something about playing games on a giant screen has always intrigued me, but I'd like to learn how to differentiate between the specs on one or another. I don't think "Which monitor should I buy?" is a productive question, at least not in my case.

Thank You

The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning towards a high quality monitor. I was at a store today looking at lcd, led, and plasma t'v's and they we'rent all that impressive. I might have been too close, or maybe they weren't configured for the environment, but they all looked grainy. A lot of problems with blacks being patchy as well.

I would recommend a high quality monitor for gaming. I currently play on my 50in 1080p plasma and while I dont have a picture issue I do find I am more responsive while sitting in my computer chair at the desk than on my couch. The right size imo is the 24-25in range also.
