Hello Toms Fam!

I just got done going through the awful process of my second msi RMA and got the motherboard, put her in, and it seems to be working well.

I did a benchmark test and one thing I did notice was the GPU seemed to be running under expectations. A message appeared that said "Sub optimal CPU (13%). High background CPU reduces benchmark accuracy." I also noticed with CPU-Z running during the bench mark test that my processor was anywhere from 800 MHz to 4400 MHz and jumped up around the 4400 alot. My processor is rated at 4000 MHz but is unlocked. Temps were from 35-75 during test also. In addition I tried disabling Vsync for the graphics test but it turned out just about the same.

Here's the latest test:

UserBenchmarks: Game 59%, Desk 66%, Work 54%
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K - 89.6%
GPU: Nvidia GTX 970 - 59.7%
HDD: Seagate Desktop SSHD 2TB - 87.2%
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 3TB - 92.1%
RAM: Crucial BLS4G3D1609DS1S00. 4x4GB - 61.5%
MBD: MSI Z97 GAMING 7 (MS-7916)

*Also says out of 100 systems with the exact same components, 48 performed better than mine.*

Is this normal, or is it possible a turbo setting for CPU is turned on or perhaps the over utilization of the CPU is throttling the GPU? Also I have XMP Profile turned on in BIOS to fully utilize my RAM.

I don't want to go hardcore and stress my components, but if i need to do some slight safe overclocking with the GPU, and tone back the CPU I would be up for that if that's what needs to be done.

Any comments, recommendations, and knowledge would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
Joe

Solution
Many folks stress unnecessarily over cpu utilization numbers in assorted games...; quad cores may show high cpu utilization , but, give outstanding framerates.

As long as your framerates are roughly at what other stock clocked 4790/GTX970 owners are at, ....start playing....
