Benchmarking my system

I am upgrading my video card and CPU, and while I have 3D Mark I want to see what I'm really getting out of this upgrade. In FPS.

I love the way the hardware guys at Toms Hardware do their benchmarking, with tons o' games, showing FPS at different resolutions, and doing so in Demos, not while playing, so they are comparing apples to apples.

I was wondering if somewhere there was a "how to" guide for benchmarking, telling me how to pull up FPS numbers on many common games such as Quake III, Wolfenstein, Far Cry, C&C Generals, etc. and also how to access the "demos" so that I'm not comparing in-game results, which could vary drastically depending on how it is played.

I appreciate the help!

mmm...Download Fraps, it shows your FPS in the top left in all games and video and such.

That's a crappy answer. He want's to know how to make demos like Tom's. Most of the demos Toms uses are downloadable, so you can run the exact same demo and see what you get and compare it with Tom's results. Just search for the exact demo name on google.

Really though you should have run some demos BEFORE you upgraded, so you could see the before and after. Too late for that.

Me: are you saying I can't provide?
Me: cause I know I can provide.
Me: oh and I can provide money too😉
Rachel:): why do we need money when we can just stay in our room and have sex all day?
