Hi,

I think the title pretty much says it all....

I currently have an I5 8600k overclocked to 5GHz with a Corsair H100v2 AIO watercooler.

I am pondering an upgrade to an I7 9700kf

Is there much value in doing this? I see the 9700kf is a massive jump on the stock 8600k but at the overclock I am running is it the same as the stock clock speed of the I7 9700k.

Will all the other technical benefits still provide substatial improvements such as hyperthreading, better cache etc.

I mostly play flight sims like IL2 and DCS and in VR and my GPU sadly is only an RTX 2070 Super but the upgrade in GPU is in the realm of thousands of $ whereas a CPU is only around AU$400-500.

Any thoughts?

With i7 you get 2 more cores, single core performance may stay same but potential for OC is also greater

I've seen a few reports that the heat from the 9700 might exceed the capability of the Corsair H100v2.

The other thing is that a lot of the games I play make more use of single core performance than multi-core. Sadly DCS is not well optimised for multi-core.
