I ended up with 2 identical HHDs from a recent purchase (figured I'd sell one for a profit) but then began thinking maybe there are some benefits of running two...? except on not sure on that they would be.

Any input would be great. Thanks

HHD is ::

Solution
RAID0 for performance | RAID1 for redundancy | make a dedicated back-up disk

For 1st option, SSD is way better alternative.
For 3rd option, online cloud services allow you to make back-up with flexible storage plan.

My conclusion: RAID1 seems to be the best reason for keeping the extra drive. Especially the two HDDs have the same capacity.

EDIT
For your gaming need, how about trading the extra for a SSD, then use the mechanical HDD for storage.
There are a number of benefits, in addition to the additional space, depending on what you do with the computer. Do you edit photos or videos? If yes, the second drive can be used as a "scratch" disk. For example you would have your editing program on one disk and the source files on the second disk.

Its ment to be a gaming computer. I assume i could place the games i play alot on the drive with the OS and some of the games i dont play as often on the other? Games are MOBAs and games such as Dayz, Rust, BF3.

I'm not the best person to answer the question regarding games. I will say that I have some programs installed on the primary (OS) drive and others installed on a secondary drive. I haven't had any problems with the programs installed on the secondary drive.

Thanks for the input

This all depends on what you want to do. An extra hard drive is quite useful, as you can never have too much storage space!

My only concern is that I would rather have my OS on an SSD, and the data on my HD rather than 2 HD's. You may want to sell one of the hard drives to accomplish that.

What is the MB equivalent of aforementioned hard drive? Basically im asking how much money I would have to spend in addition to the sale of my extra hard drive for it to be worth purchasing. Other components of the system are mostly entry to mid level.

Check the size of game folders, target the games that load a lot of textures from disk. "Only buy what you need." You can always add more and the price will only goes down.
120GB SATA3 goes from USD$60 to $80 online. Visit your local hardware stores to hunt a bargain. Any modern SSD would give you significant improvement over the traditional harddisk.
