BENQ XL2420TE recognized as Generic Non PNP monitor

Hi guys,
So I opened my computer yesterday and my computer can't recognize my monitor. It is showing "Generic Non PNP monitor" with only 1024x768(native) and 800x600 resolution with up to 240 hz refresh rate ( but when you choose refresh rate higher than 120 hz, its saying out of range). So I tried all the solution that I know and that I googled. I reformatted my computer, updated my bios, installed latest GPU driver/previous GPU driver, updated my BENQ monitor with the cd provided (going to device manager, update driver, have disk.....), did windows update, used a different DVI dual link cable, removed my graphics card and put it back on but nothing is working. And then I tried to plug in my wifes' monitor (BENQ XL2411Z) to my computer and her monitor work fine. I put my monitor (BENQ XL2420TE) on her computer and it says "no signal detected". I'm planning to RMA it to BENQ but I want to know if anyone got a solution or has experience this problem before.

MSI Z68A GD65
8 gb ram
EVGA 560 ti x2 (SLI)
SEASONIC 750W PSU
BENQ XL2420TE
Windows 7

Did you upgrade the Graphics cards drivers recently ? This could have been the cause.
went through the control panel of the video card. nevertheless its still showing as a Generic monitor. it used to recognize the monitor as a BenQ

Have you made any changes to your computer prior to this issue?

Method 3
If you are still unable to get the secondary monitor detected, I would suggest you to access the display card manufacturer’s website and download the latest drivers for Windows 7 and install it and check if it helps you fix the issue.

Thanks for the reply and time Dashing_star. I did try your suggestions but none of them solve the issue. I just got a third DVI-D cable I ordered and tried it on my monitor but it is still showing "generic non-pnp monitor" with 1024x768 and 800x600 as the only resolution. After googling all day for solutions, I found out about my monitor EDID might be corrupt. I'm planning to just RMA it to BENQ since EDID fix is complicated for me.

I ran into a similar problem on my work laptop last night, with a Samsung monitor -- and cold booting everything, leaving the monitor unpowered overnight, etc. also didn't work; it still showed as "Generic Non-PnP monitor" and wouldn't let me use the native resolution.

This morning I tried plugging the monitor into a Linux machine, which lets me force the resolution even if the monitor isn't detected as PnP -- and it worked there. Then when I plugged it back in to the Windows laptop it was detected as plug & play again, and everything worked

Hi,
I brought my monitor to their repair department in Chino Hills,CA since mine is still under warranty.They reset the bios of my monitor back to default and it worked again like before. I waited like 30 mins. So I suggest if you're monitor is under warranty, send it to them but you'll cover the shipping. If its not under warranty, try thetrivialstuff solution. Hope it helps.
