Two of the connector pins in my cdrw drive are bent downward somewhat, and consequently the ribbon won't fit in place. Is this something I can fix myself or at all, and if so, how? Thanks.

You may straighten the bent pins with a pair of tweezers, but do it very carefully.

yeah... rebend them carefully, and in the future make sure when you insert/remove ide connectors you do it so that its not at any angle.

the way i bend my pins back is by trying to put the ide cable back on, make sure all the tipsmof the pins are in the right hole and wiggle it on slightly, when you put the ide all the way on it should straighten them pretty good, works for me,

but still take care when taking them off/puttin them ack on in the future

its a breeze if you do it carefully, you dont want any pins flying off... I used a small set of pliers last time this happened
(I have even had to straighten CPU pins because other ppl couldnt understand what way the processor goes in the socket...)

I use a "Mechanical pencil " also known as a "drafting pencil". Push down on the button to extend the grippers, empty out the lead or graphite, place it onto the bent ide pin, retract the button to grip the pin and slide it upwards bending it in the direction needed. Be careful you only get one or two tries.
