So my 280x has bitten the dust and I have been refunded £220. So now I need a new gpu for my 1080p gaming.
I have been reading up and it looks like I can afford (for a few £ extra) a 970 or a 290x.
As the 390x is basically the same as 290x and I have seen the 290x for £200 I'm thinking this is a good option. Also in favour of the amd card is I've heard dx12 highly improves amd, and doesn't do much for nvidea.
The positives I see for 970 (£260) are the lower power consumption and cooler operating temperatures which will help with a longer life.
I plan on keeping the card for at least 3 years and want to be playing hi/ultra as long as possible. My refund was very simple with this card, which is making me think if I go amd and the card overheats and dies, I can get another card after. Tempting
