What's the best 1080p monitor.

I recently built a new 1060 rig and it's not great enough to run 1440p at 60fps so what's the best 1080p monitor, and should I use HDMI or Displayport (I've never used displayport)

Solution

As i post in the previous post, a gtx 1060 falls short for 144Hz

Depends on the viewing distance and eyesight. Iv'e used it several years ago and it was not bad (for me), btu it depends a lot on personal preferences (i favour big monitors).

If you are sensible to screen tear then , yes, purchase a Gsync monitor but i think that...

The best monitor is very relative....

First of all usually you need to choose between best colours, best view angles, best refresh rate as those things limit the technology of the panel you want to use.
Second need to known if you want GSync (as your case because you use a Nvidia), Freesync or nothing...
Third you need to define the size of the pannel, 1080 is just for a size of 27' but depends on personal opinions...

And last, the amount of money you want to put into the monitor, the BEST is going to cost you a looot on money, serval times more than the one you expend on the card.

Okay so I want a good overall monitor for gaming and the occasional movie/cartoon. I want to try 144hz too (used 60hz my whole life)

I've read 27 inch is a bit too pixelated for 1080p so i'll probably just stick with 24 inch ( even though i'd like a 27 )

And I am very keen to try G-Sync since I have a GPU capable and have had screen tear issues with my current monitor (BENQ RL2455HM)

I dont think that a single 1060 is enought to get 144 fps on future games, even on current gen ones are just under 100fps... you need at least a 1070/1080 for that.

I would in yor place expend a bit less on the monitor and switch (if ots possible) the 1060 for a 1070.

If you are sensible to screen tear then , yes, purchase a Gsync monitor but i think that your best option with a Gtx 1060 is a 75 or 100Hz monitor, 144Hz i think is a waste on future games as you would not get more than 100 fps.

My bet would be a Gsync 75-100Hz and if you want the best a AMVA panel altought i only see them in ultrawide resolutions (2560x1080)
