Hi all,

I'm planning to build a new gaming setup when I move across the country and need to buy a new monitor, and I had a few questions that I'd appreciate some input on.

Basic info
  • Country: Canada
  • Budget: 500-1000 Canadian dollars (including tax), but obviously the cheaper the better
  • Use case: Gaming, schoolwork, photo/video editing, media consumption (movies, etc.)
  • Preferred resolution: 1440p
  • Preferred screen size: 27-32"
  • Preferred refresh rate: 144-240hz
Questions
  1. I'm currently using an Asus TUF VG27AQ (27", 1440p @ 165hz), but I was thinking of upgrading to 240hz because I play a lot of FPS games. Would the jump from 165hz to 240hz be noticeable?
  2. My current monitor is 27", but I was thinking of upgrading to 32". Would the PPI of 1440p at 32" make the image unbearably blurry?
  3. Should I look for GSYNC compatibility? I've had it enabled on my current monitor for a while, and to be honest, I haven't noticed much of a difference (but that could totally just be my not-very-discerning eye).

I've trawled through Amazon and Newegg for an hour now, but I haven't seen anything that's jumped out at me. Does anyone have any recommendations for what I should be looking at? Thanks!

EDIT: Just realized I forgot to mention that I'm not a fan of curved monitors, so flat panels would be much preferred. Also, I just stumbled on this model from LG that seems to fit most of my requirements, but I don't have any experience with LG displays. Would this fit my needs?

Any monitor with Freesync will work on nvidia or AMD so pretty much anything with variable refresh rate should work fine. One warning monitors with a g-sync module use a lot of power when idling due to the module itself if power is a concern at all.

Here's a review of the display you mentioned from one of the reputable sites I've used in the past when looking for new displays: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/32gp850-b

This is my favorite display review site, but they don't do the volume of some others: https://tftcentral.co.uk/

Hardware Unboxed YT channel has a monitors channel and their reviews have been really good as well: https://www.youtube.com/@monitorsunboxed

Unless your very good and extremely competitive 165hz is a good compromise, I would prioritise image quality instead.

In my view no, but it won't look as crisp as your current 27" monitor. I like big screens personally, so I wouldn't think twice about it but everyone is different. For reference I used a 27" 1080p IPS monitor for 8 years as my primary monitor, many would say that's too big for 1080p but it never bothered me once.
