Need some help here. My 17" 1996 Syncmaster 17GLi is on it's last legs so I narrowed my replacement list to the following monitors. (19" is a no go!!!)

Nec FE750--------1280x1024@85Hz-------$207+S&H--3Yr Warr.
Hitachi CM625-----1280x1024@85Hz-------$218+S&H--5Yr Warr.
Samsung 700nf----1280x1024@85Hz-------$202+S&H--3Yr Warr.
Viewsonic E75F----1280x1024@80Hz-------$169+S&H--3Yr Warr.
LG795ft-----------1280x1024@90Hz-------$197+S&H--3Yr Warr.

I'm leaning towards the Hitachi for the warranty aspect but, I can't find any reviews on picture quality. What do you think??????

I would go for either the LG or the NEC.

heh
my 4 year old 'noname' 17" monitor is on its last legs too...
flickers, goes dim and gets all pincushionie on the sides when warm.

ive been looking and the Viewsonic PF775 has caught my eye...

strangely enough, i dont think any of the current 17" monitors were as good as the one i had 2 years back in canada, was an optiquest V75.
excellent monitor that could do 1024x768x117Hz or 1600x1200x75hz.

max res 1600x1280 NI
0.25 dot pitch
16" viewable
1280x1024@90Hz

$575 australian. (one of the high end 17" monitors according to cost)

Thanks, I took a look at the PF775 and it's seems very good. I sould be able to get it for $250. I like the fact that it's the same tech as a sony but only using one ray gun instead of 3, less things to break and not paying extra for the sony name.

Servo

All color monitors use one elecron gun. They all produce three electron beams. One for red, one for green and one for blue.

hey mr gosharks...
i see your a monitor(ish) type of proffessional.

can u tell me what the deal is with viewsonic and optiquest?

i get the idea that optiquest is a sub-company of viewsonic, but only in the us/canada.
yes/no?

i had a 17" optiquest v75 and it was a great investment, was upset i had to leave it behind when i moved.

Optiquest was a monitor manufacturer. They where purchased by ViewSonic, long time ago, not certain the exact year. Recently ViewSonic purchased the monitor division of Nokia, so now they have three brands to deal with.

This is common in the industry. NEC and Mitsubishi combined their monitor divisions. Proview purchased both Mag Innovation and CTX.
