I will soon move to the US and will have to sell my current system and buy myself one there. I need to know what is the Best 19" monitor on a budget. I currently own a 17" Sony 200sx and love my sony but after looking at the prices for their 19" it seems i cannot afford it. I dont wish to buy a refurb monitor.

I have heard good comments on Hitachi monitors and viewsonic.

Please if you own a good 19" monitor for someone on a 300- 450$ budget please sugest. I ould like it as flat as possible with high refreh rates and a good dpi.

Thanks.

Why do I use LINUX ? Cause its the BEST OS
Why do I use Windows? Cause its the BEST Nintendo..

Samsung 955DF is a great budget monitor.

One beef i have with Samsung is that my brother owned one and 2 friends had one as well. All 3 monitors broke down with the same exact problem after a year and a half.
Plus at least with the prices on your page it is a little bit over my budget.

What i need is something in the 300 - 450$ range.

Those are actually Canadian prices; try pricewatch.com for American prices.

Also, the 955DF is one of the cheapest 19" flat monitors that you'll be able to find.

Hrmmm well my opinion on this matter be this :)
pc parts come and go.They last a while but then get outdated by newer counter parts. Moitors however are different in that they last! AGES! Thus it really IS worth saving up the extra cash and gettinga kick ass 19".
only way i would get a budget 19" is if im getting it for my mate who isnt fussy.
Or unless you aint fussy of course :)
Basically i would say get the best 19" as it will last and lets face it.You look at it.you dont look at your cpu or graph card (do you? 😛) Better the monitor, better for eyes (to an extent anyway)
I say get the best!
btw - i have
19" iiyama Vision Master Pro 450
Luvs it =)

I could not agree with you more. I wish i had the cash to get a better monitor. But the fact of the matter is that my move will entail in me selling most of the stuff here to buy myself new stuff when im in the States.
Currently i am almost settled between Nec or Hitachi. The Hitachi has preety good sepcs. The nec i have heard great things about and bothe monitors are priced ver similar.

HITACHI 19"/18V CM771U-511 .22 1600X1200 75HZ ERGO FLAT

NEC 19"/18V FE950+ .25 1792X1344 TOTALLY FLAT

Those are the 2 Monitors currently in my list. I need to settle on one of them. My move is not till 3 months for now but soon enough i will be there and i bet i wont have my mind made up without help heh.

I hope i can buy one of them after some time im settled and everything is going smoothe.

Thanks for the Advise.

Quite understand why bad experience of Samsung monitors would put you off, I'd feel the same way.

Having worked as a service engineer on systems with various brand monitors (Viewsonic, Philips, Samsung, Mag, Hitachi...) I have to say Samsung on the whole are brilliant for the price. They are very well engineered with good long-term reliability.

Your barckground on the subject is interesting to me. Could you be so kind as to elaborate a little more on your choice of Samsung? And could you as well add your opinion on Hitachi or Nec? The last 2 are the ones i am mostly considering since the spec and price seem very good.

Thanks again

I can't really comment on current models from any manufacturer, because I worked mainly with systems that have been operating in the field for two years or more.

Many monitors suffer from degradation of image quality over time. Focus, convergence, geometry....

In my experience the various Samsung models I worked with retained good image quality for their entire life-span.

I am using a Samsung Syncmaster 17glsi now, it was employed at London Heathrow airport on a baggage X-Ray machine. It is at least four years old and suffered serious abuse, I got to keep it it because someone whacked it so hard with a baggage trolley, the VDU snapped off its (screwed to the desk) stand. Our company made much more by selling the customer a new monitor than repairing the old one 🙂

This monitor still has an image sharper than any new 17" budget (possibly even high-end) monitor, including the Viewsonic E70 and Philips 107S (monitors that customers of mine have chosen recently).

I'm not biased through brand loyalty or anything, indeed I've never bought a Samsung monitor.

But for the price, I doubt you could find anything else with the build quality of a Samsung.

You should try using a monitor before buying if you can, perception of image quality is very subjective. My wife has a Philips monitor on her system, the image is not that sharp but very 'warm', and she loves it.

I'm rambling now....good luck.

I have just ordered a Samsung 900IFT should be with me in a few days , Ill let you know what the picture quality is like, but then again Im gonna say its great cause im using a crappy 15" atm :)

I've got the same as mousepotato, plus it's former model 195-Tx which just isn't flat. I think they both look awesome. There might be better though, but you'll have to go and look at them yourself. Don't buy one based on specs only. You need to look at them each individually.
