Best 23/24" monitor for general use.

Hi, as the name suggests i'm looking for a new 24" monitor. it'll be for general use, some gaming, films and work etc.

I've been looking through and found a few with relatively good prices and reviews and i was wondering if some of you could help me choose?

are there any better samsung monitors than that? i cant afford the Dell UltraSharp U2311H

thanks for the replies! any monitors recommended from outside these few? samsung dynamic cr is lower than the others isnt it? the lg one for example is 50,000,000:1. the LG and Asus have ids panels, does that make a huge difference?

Contrast ratio figures are fudgable - don't go by them.

Yes, IPS panels make a difference. If you're at all in to graphic arts (photoshop, processing photos) or if you watch a lot of movies, or if you just appreciate image quality, you should strongly consider it. Conversely, some gamers will tell you that "slow" IPS panels are bad for gaming. Whatever - my BenQ IPS panel (8ms g-t-g, 16ms (?) black-to-white) doesn't exhibit ghosting.

Debatable, but is the OP looking at 37" screens? No? Okay then.

It was an irrelevant point, at best, and if there was anything not calm about it, it was your interpretation, nothing else.

OP - don't worry about the response time, so much, 'specially if this is for general use. See if you can find more in-depth review on them. If you're going to use it for video, which I would assume you are, I would worry more about black level than contrast ratio (big CR numbers are often attained by juicing things on the brightness (white) end of the scale, but this is often meaningless as it is beyond the point where the whites will bloom) and I would see what they have to say about color rendition, 'specially in regard to dithering.

ASUS is great, you can't go wrong with their monitors but if you want my personal recommendation, go with ViewSonic's VX2450wm-LED. It's around $185. We reviewed it on our site so check it out if you have the time.

BTW TFT Reviews is a fantastic website. Best reviews around.
