I have a Viewsonic VX2250wm-led monitor that works just fine, but am thinking of going to a 26-27"" for (Solidworks) cad design (but not gaming). I would like to keep the price less than $400. Anybody know what is worth considering. (There are some 27" Viewsonics available, and I am not very familiar with the other brands.)

for that budget as stated prior you will only be getting a 1920x1080p monitor which is okay if you have vision problems and have trouble seeing things on a smaller screen but is a bad choice if you dont. a bigger screen isnt going to have the pixel density of a smaller screen so things will not be as sharp and crisp.

a 2560x monitor is the next logical step up but they will run $700-1000 minimum. remember that you need hardware capable of rendering at that resolution as well. cheap cards will not cut it.

as far as viewsonic goes.... i've had great luck with them as well but when it comes to 2560x i'd have to say check out the dell.

Thanks everyone. After some additional research and a recommendation from elsewhere, I'm going with an ASUS PA246Q with 1920x1200 pixels which should arrive this week. After it gets some use, I intend to report back.
