Best 375 W Graphics card

Hi,

I have a Dell XPS 410 which has a power supply of only 375 Watts. I would like buy the best video card with gaming graphics with one that can meet the minimun power supply of 375 W. Microsogt Flight Simulator X is the game installed on this machine.

HD 4670 is your best choice. It should play that game (and others) exceptionally well.
I wouldn't suggest getting the 9600GT because they require an extra power connection.

.....and they require a 450W minimum PSU. So that definitely isn't an option here.

Either way, it still requires 450W minimum. His PSU wont be able to run that card.

The 375 watt Dell psu can provide 30 amps of 12v power and has a 6 pin pcie connector.
They sold the machine with an 8800 GTX using a pcie "Y" splitter.

Here's an edit for ya;
450 watts is a reccomendation, not a requirement, along with that wattage reccomendation comes an amperage reccomendation of 24a and that's more important that the wattage.

I'd say go with a 4670. Even if you may be able to run a 9800GTX now that would be quite the strain on your PSU and as it aged it's power output would decay until it died one day. I guess you would be O.k with a 9800GT, or a Radeon 4830, but personally I wouldn't put more than a 4670 in there.

I agree. You really dont want to push it with an older PSU.

Dells 375w power supply is manufactured by Delta, the same manufacturer of Antecs 380w/430w/500w and 650w Earthwatts series. Delta replaced Seasonic as the manufacturer for Antec for this series. The GTS 250 / GTX9800+ 55nm (NOT the 65nm) uses 80w of power at load, or the same amount as the stock 9800GT, 5 watts less then the HD4830 which uses 85w at load. That being said while i would run a 55nm GTS250 on my own personal system with the 375w Dell PSU (keeping an eye out for any signs of problems) it's something i'd be reluctant to recommend to someone else. The safe thing to do would be to get the HD4670.

if you decided to upgrade the PSU, check the pin compatibility, I've heard that some powers made 4 dell are not pin2pin compatible with standard ATX

As pointed out by dirtmountain, the 55nm 9800 GTX+ uses no more power than 9800 GT, that's a favorite upgrade for the older XPS400 with it's more power hungry Pentium D cpu.
I've got an overclocked 8800 GTS 640 ( more power hungry than the 9800GTX+ ) running in an XPS410 for more than 2 years now.

Voting with Delluser on this one. The Dell 375W PSU is a not your normal sub 400W PSU. They have 30A on the 12v rail, and can run just about anything. You can safely use this on anything that needs only a single 6pin PCIe plug. I don't know of any 4850/4870s that meet this requirement, so the fastest one you can get is the 9800GTX+ thats already been mentioned.

The 4670 is a good card, but you have a 6pin PCIe plug. Don't be afraid to use it.

Why get a 9800GTX+, when you can get a GTS 250? It's basically the same card except the GTS 250 needs a tad bit less power and is rebranded.

The 4850 needs only 1 power connection.

If what you are saying about the power supply is true, then I would wait until the 4770 comes out (which shouldn't be TOO long).

I speak for myself when I say that Im not an expert on Dell products (whether it be a PSU or a laptop). I understand what you are saying about the power supply, I was just wondering why you suggested a card that is getting rebranded, while the rebranded 1 has less power consumption. I see now that you were referring to them collectively. Thank you for explaining that to me.

I complain when people do the same thing, thanks for the correction. Basically I'm referring to all g92 cards as they are (mostly) the same. Get whichever is cheaper, better bundle, etc. If your on a budget, there is no reason to avoid the 9600GT or some other cheaper card. I just don't understand why so many say to get the 4670 because it doesn't need a PCIe plug. There is one on the PSU, use it.

I got my XPS 410 back a couple of weeks ago, nephew has had it playing WoW all day for the past couple of years.
Took the 8800 ( G80 ) out and replaced it with an 8800 ( G92 ) , like the Energizer bunny, it's still going.

The 4870 needs two 6 pin power connectors that the Dell psu doesn't have, personally I wouldn't do it.
Your psu is a bit older and the cpu in a 400 is more power hungry than the C2D in the 410.

You can't know this, it's a piece of electronic hardware and sometimes it just happens.

I'd feel more comfortable running it than the 4870
