Since you're just starting out, I think Blender, Tinkercad and SketchUp would be great choices. What's cool about these three is that they're all free.

With my 3D printer files, I primarily use Rhino3D ($900), and 3DBuilder.
Starting to branch out into Blender and SketchUp. Possibly Solid Edge COmmunity.
