Whether is be 970s SLI, single 980, or 980s SLI, what configuration would be most capable to run intensive games such as Battlefield 4 on a single 4K display @ 60fps (+/-20)? Can be either Nvidia or AMD.

I'm currently running bf4 at 60-80 fps on my Gtx970, and during my upgrade would like to not drop below ~40 fps. I'm willing to spend AT MOST 1000-1300$ on the new graphics card configuration alone, but cheapest is best. Also, don't consider the cost of either the monitor or (possible) psu upgrade. (If I run 970s in SLI, I only need to finance an additional 970!) I'm not open to running 3-way SLI, for many/most games do not scale well.

Current build:
Intel i7-4790K
MSI Z97 G-45 Gaming
16gb (8x2) DDR3-1866 G.Skill Sniper
Gigabyte GTX 970 Windforce oc edition
250gb Samsung evo SSD
WD 1000Tb Caviare blue
Corsair CS 750M Gold

TPU didnt do 4k on the 290x's but 5760 x10780 is the closest thing and it shows 290x having and edge here... edge will increase at 4k

if investing in 4k, I'd wait for the 390x to drop in mid April and the 980 Ti a week later.

The 750 CSM needs to be replaced either way

you should wait and see if gtx 980 6gb or 8 gb realeases, or amd 3xx series. but i'd prefer 980 6gb sli. i own a single 980 and it can't handle games at 4k + ultra textures, because it runs out of vram. in case i play with high textures instead of ultra i get a fair 30-35 fps in most games.
