Best 80 Dollar Keyboard

Solution
^Forgot about rosewill - that's actually a pretty good keyboard. And I think it's a full keyboard too, which gives it an advantage over the CM storm series.
Go buy a nice keyboard for under $20.

You're probably eating over the keyboard or drinking beer over it anyways.

At some point its going to get ruined, at the very least, the next time you smack it from getting killed in a pc game.

yeah..... no, im 14 😛

Also, moulder doesn't seem to have experience with mechanical keyboards. They feel like typing on a cloud of boobs, and are built like freaking tanks. You wouldn't be able to destroy one if you tried.

Booyah1555, go look at the CM storm series - they're about the cheapest well-built mechanical keyboards out there.

I would do a little bit of research into what switches you want, but blues and greens are both excellent. I personally have blacks, and love them for gaming, but consider them to be a little bit too stiff for typing comfortable for extended periods of time.

That's the one I was recommending - they're great keyboards, but the fact that they're tenkeyless (missing the number pad) kills it for me. I use my number pad for macros with Autohotkey.

The Microsoft Sidewinder X4 keyboard is a fantastic keyboard and so far the best keyboard I have ever owned.

Pros:
- The keyboard has an amazing blood red back light and looks really good in the dark. You can choose from three different lighting settings as well as turn it off.
- There are six macro keys and you can program them to any key combination you want using either the included Microsoft Intellitype software or by pressing the record button for on-the-fly programming. There are also three different profiles to separately store the macros for the buttons allowing for6x3 = 18 different macros.
- Keys feel good to type on and keyboard can be inclined using latches on the back.
- Anti-Ghosting technology. I haven't tested pressing 26 keys at once (cause I only have ten fingers lol) but this keyboard certainly lives up to its promise of registering 10+ keys at once.

Cons:
- Hand rest cannot be removed but I have no problem with that. It actually feels comfortable to both game as well as type on.
- Media keys only work for Windows Media Player which is what I primarily use. This may annoy those who rely on a different default media player.

Conclusion: The Sidewinder X4 is awesome. I highly recommend it to both gamers and those looking for a really good keyboard.

@ravi:
Sorry, but I have to _strongly_ disagree.

Most of the pros you list are just basic keyboard functions, and the sidewinder is a poor pick. It's horribly overpriced for a non-mechanical keyboard.

Intellitype (now microsoft keyboard and mouse center) is a hideously clunky program that is easily one-upped by the free, open autohotkey.

The backlighting is cool looking, but shouldn't matter - the game is on the screen, not the desk.

All told, it's a proprietary, membrane keyboard selling far above the $25 that membrane keyboards should run at the top end, and doesn't do any one thing particularly well or have any outstanding feature.

Agreed, for it's price tag it doesn't offer many features.

Also the stock photo is deceiving, here is what it actually looks like. Looks like a cheap keyboard to me, and I can imagine the glossy coating is a finger print magnet.

yeah, my friend has one it seems kinda over rated. I'd much rather have a similarly priced corsair k series keyboard. Which is one of my favorite options so far.

@booyah1555: Alps are good, I've used them before. They don't feel as good to type on as cherry switches, though - typing on cherry switches feels like typing on a cloud of boobs.

@ravi gagan: The deathstalker should be avoided at all costs. It suffers from Razor's typical issue of being designed well on paper, but being too pricey for its build quality and wearing out very very quickly. I say that as I use my deathadder black edition, but... I'm not a fan. They feel cheap.

I also don't care a lot for monoprice - yes they're cheap, but the products themselves tend to be cheap. I also wouldn't bother with a mechanical keyboard branded as a "gaming" keyboard. All that means is marketing to try to get more money.
