I currently have i5 8400 ( going to upgrade to a i5 8700 in a few years when its needed)16gb vengeance DDR4 ram.. recently ordered a 1080 ftw2 im curious for more AAA gaming like tomb raider, shadow of war, fallout 4, RPG etc , fps mainly BF1,overwatch,destiny2 SW battlefront.. curious if worth going high refresh rate 1080p monitor or go with 1440p 60-80hz or 100 + monitor.. also was curious can i change resolution on lets say 1440p 144hz monitor to lower refresh or 1080P at high refresh rates for older games.. sorry new to whole high refresh monitor thing.. help would be most appreciated :)

27" 1440p/144hz GSync monitor - I currently use this and it's the cheapest you will find a Gsync monitor with those specs. Had one weird issue with not waking from sleep when I bought it, but haven't seen that happen in months.

Also, yes you can drop the resolution to 1080p and still use the 144hz Gsync technology

i think for single player, fps does not matter as much as eye experience, i think getting a gsync monitor will be better if you have the budget for it.

as for online fps game, you always want to have the high and stable fps (close to 144) at the cost of image quality.

i think the good buy will be a 1080p 144hz monitor, if you have the budget, get one with 1080p 144ghz with G sync feature.
