Best Amazon Prime Day Hard Drive deals 2025 — internal and external HDD deals from WD, Seagate, and Toshiba

$250 on the 24TB Barracuda sounds indeed rather attractive...

Unfortunately they are having none of that in the EU, where it's still at €322... and might be secretly refurbished.

No, just reminding people not to trust any "Best Prime Day Deals" article at face value, especially those that may earn commission by steering them to one site over another.
Are you saying that WD Red Pro 20TB wasn't "$724" yesterday? Damn!

Or fortunately. I wouldn't buy a Seagate drive if it was half as cheap. All these things do is break down on you at the worst possible moment.

Not my experience. I've been running quite a few of these Helium drives, mostly 18TB, some 16, some 24.

24x7 for a couple of years, but in a DC inside servers with proper air flow, no failures or other suprises.

You must have been lucky. I've used a lot of hard drives over the years, and Seagate had the highest failure rate by far, until I completely abandoned them for good maybe 4 or 5 years ago.

It's technically possible that they finally got their s**t together and started making reliable drives, but looking at this particular drive's Newegg review page, this is obviously not the case. 20% of reviews are 1 star, and among those, almost all are "dead on arrival" or very soon after.

You'd have better chances playing Russian roulette. Thanks but no thanks.
