Hello all,

I've been wrestling with upgrading my CPU for modded Minecraft for quite some time now. I'm currently running:

AMD FX 6350 Overclocked to 3.9Ghz
MSi 970A-G46 Motherboard
Asus R9 280x GPU
16GB of 1600 Mhz RAM
256 SSD and 2TB HDD for Data
Also I have a Corsairs Water cooler... I think it is an H60 but I'm not sure

My currently setup gets me a good 50-60 frames a second on a newly generated world, but as the world gets bigger and busier frames will drop to around 30-40. Its playable but I'm greedy

Everything that I've read about Minecraft and modded Minecraft especially, says that you want the fastest processor PER core since the poorly coded game that is Minecraft can only utilize a single core.

That led me to take a look at the FX 9590. But some quick searching on this site told me that chip is less than ideal for several reasons. So what would be your suggestion in my situation? I've always thought about upgrading to an FX 8350 but was always unsure if the difference would be worth it at all.

I would like to stay in the AMD ecosystem if at all possible just for money's sake.

Thanks for all the help!

So I should think of switching to an intel processor then?

If you're not happy with the performance now and you feel like spending the money and re-installing Windows and all your programs, yes. Plus you'll need to re-activate Windows again. If your Win7 copy is an OEM, you may have to jump thru some hoops when it sees a "new PC".

Lol... and here I was trying to be so polite. I was biting my tongue (figuratively) trying to avoid telling the OP that...

I was not trying to be mean though the facts make it look that way ? sorry

the truth hurts, but its seems more toward memory and java optimizing /updated .. faster is most times better but I feel that his fx 6350 should do about all expected on that
really nothing ''top end'' gets recommended ??
