I'm building another gaming rig with my new gtx 970. I am a youtube and I play ALL games on ultra. So I was looking for a mobo when I realized that amd mobos were pretty cool and the 8 cores seemed interesting. (They also come in handy while recording)

So which is the top 3 AMD cpu for gaming+recording?

MONEY DOES NOT MATTER
(No I'm not changing my gpu)

If you can't wait for ZEN later this year, I would recommend the 8350, It has 8 cores so gaming+recording+editing should be easy. Just stay away from the fx 9000 series, they are very unstable and draw too much power.

A good Intel CPU would give way more performance BUT if you are really set on AMD and can not wait till the 2nd to 3rd quarter of this year when AMD is supposed to release there new stuff then you will be looking in to the FX series CPU's and the Highest performing ones are FX-9370 the FX-9590 and the FX-8350. With liquid cooling it is possible to get close to the 9590 frequency with the 8350 but no guaranty's.

For a board look in to the Asus Crosshair formula boards for teh AM3+ socket.

the 9000 series are not unstable. The reason people have issues with them is they do not use a good liquid cooler and have a motherbaord with good VRM cooling to handle the 220W that is required to hit close to 5 GHz. If you take a FX-8350 and OC it to around the 5 GHz point it will draw the same amount of wattage as the 9000 series.

There are only a handleful of motherboards that can even power those chips in the first place. 220w for the cpu alone is ridiculous, it makes a lot more sense to get a 8350 and overclock it.

My board can handle it and last time I looked (which was just the other day ) it cost $139. There are more than what you would think but it needs to be a higher end board.

You must have missed the fact that I mentioned that when you OC a 8350 to near the 5 GHz point it will still draw 220W and also require liquid cooling to keep it cool. For some one that says money doesn't matter then a AIO liquid cooling system is easily in reach.

While I agree that 220W TDP is high there is a significant bump in performance in going from 4.0 GHz to 4.7 -5.0 GHz.
