Best AMD X2 / VGA Chipset?

I'm looking at a mobo/CPU replacement in the near future, and will probably
get the 3800+ X2. But, I have a nice BFG 6800GT Oc'ed to 425/1150 (VGA),
and don't want to buy another video card just yet. What chipset should I
look at? The nForce4 Ultra will only take a PCIx vid card.

I don't plan on going SLI, and I know this may be heresy, but VGA 8x is just
as fast as PCI Express 16x. I haven't seen a review yet that shows any real
performance advantage over VGA, certainly none worth investing another $400
for a new card.

You could watch the online reviews for forthcoming uli based boards with
true agp and pci-e video slots. The first is an Asrock.

Basically the NF3 or Via K8T800 Pro.

Some good VIA boards:

There are others but those are some of the popular ones. I have the Epox
and a 3800 X2 and 6800GT. Working nicely at 2.5Ghz. Your biggest problem
will be matching up a specific mobo with RAM that it likes. HTH...

Don't know about using the 6800GT & NV3 just yet...
A thread I started a few days ago was answered with the following 2 links:

Look at the AGP+PCI-E motherboard that Anandtech just reviewed. They liked
it and it's only $68 at newegg.

Nice article. I wondered if someone would make a dual video board.

Thanks.

Agreed, thanks for the heads up on this.

I look at that board & think, "damn a bran new chipset", & then I think
"damn a bran new chipset". Freakin scary.
But for $68, the biggest worry is having to change out the MB later if you
have issues.

Looking back at it, the article says they had some cold boot issues and are
hoping for a bios fix -- but they said to get it anyway. Hmm.

Maybe I'd watch for bios on the Asrock site.
