Best and Fastest External HDD's

I got a WD Green Ext for my video, pics ang game installers and it's about to give up on me.

I'm looking for a new External that is fast and has a long life while 24/7 connected to my pc during use. But I don't always use my pc 24/7, it's just I want it to be connected to my pc all the time.

And what are the differences of desktop external hdd and portable hdd.

My choices are Seagate Back Up Slim for Portable and WD MyBook for External Desktop HDD.

Any suggestions would be ok.

They are limited by USB speeds. Try a SSD in a case.

Great choice on the external storage solution that you have.
How fast do you want your external storage to be and what do you plan to use it for?
If you plan to run the external 24/7, I'd recommend you to get a desktop external HDD rather than a portable one.
The difference is that the desktop external has an additional power and it's suited for such workload. Whereas portable hard drives might overheat, especially if you use them regularly. Likewise they would spin down constantly if you don't access them.
