hi,
i bought my PC just 4 years back
my PC configuration is
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.00 Ghz
Motherboard: Intel 101 ggc
RAM: 1GB
i have a 450W power supply
Can u suggest the best ATI graphics card for gaming suitable for my PC so that i can play the latest games like COD6, TOM CLANCY's HAW X etc and whether i need to buy a higher watt power supply. currently i have RADEON HD 4350 1GB DDR2

A good choice for card would be the HD4650, it's more than fast enough for the installed CPU and needs no extra power lead.

However, I agree with Jay, the single core P4 is going to be quite a restriction, particularly with CPU intensive games like HAWX and 1 Gb of memory is also likely to cause issues with more hardware intensive games.

As a side note, the motherboard will support dual core processors, although older ones:

These Pentium D units are not cutting edge but should be a useful upgrade from the existing single core CPU. They are rare new so try E-bay or Craiglist if you wish to upgrade the CPU.

Jay, he can't run a 5xxx card, none have been released on AGP yet. I wouldn't get anything better then a 4650, and I'm not sure that's a big step up from the 4350 he already has. Add in the weak single core CPU and 1GB of ram and I'm totally on the fence about spending any more money on this.

A four year old PC isn't going to play HawkX, CoD MW2, etc. Not at good settings at medium resolutions anyways. I suggest saving a bit more and getting a better system.

oke so i got some sugjestions 4 u.
try to find some old pcs and see if there anny good ram in there or an extra pcu, powersupply or case fan in there.
plug in the extra fan, get ur extra ram in there(if u found anny), get the 4650 and overclock!!!

o and the extra fans strip the wires and plug em in ur left over molex plugs :p

or if this is all to much 4 u try buying new stuff...

oh and 474545b i dont agree that a 4 year old pc cant run CoD mw2.
i used to run a dell dimension E 5200 with 550 watts 8 gb ram ddr2 and a evga geforce 9600gt (wich is about 4 years old now) and it runs fine!
cant put all on max though :(

but conclusion= overclock and search for stuff(freeee!) or buy new stuff!

both are verry fun!

Sorry, but the 9600GT isn't four years old. My 4yo (might be only 3yo) rig is a single core 3500+, 1GB ram, and the x1800XT. I remember when I bought it that the x1900XT had just come out. I was looking at getting the 7900GT, but I heard about the memory problem and switched to AMD/ATI. The Nvidia 8 series wasn't out yet. If yours had the 9600GT, it was new enough to have PCIe, which the OP doesn't have.

Its a sinking ship, use it till its gone that get a new one.

well i wonder why people go for p4 when they have whole quad and dual series at their sleeves
i think ati 4670 will be ok.
if you upgrade to 800w psu and gtx 295 i still dont think that you can play games on high( crysis,farcry2 etc)

if you can spend some more money, go for4850 or 9800gt (seriously)
i tried to save some hundred rupees and now i have 9400gt which neither allows me to play games on high nor i can get rid of it.

You would match a single core P4 with 1GB of ram up with a 4870/4850? Seriously? That 4850 will perform exactly like a 4670, the only difference is he'll spend more money to get it and run it. Considering the age of the rig he's also probably on a small resolution. You don't need a 4850 to game at 1024x768.

The only way I'd buy one of these higher end cards is if I could get one so cheap I'd be an idiot to not buy it. Or if I was going to use it now and upgrade soon to an i5/AM3 setup.

Thats my fear, it doesn't make it true. Buying an even faster card won't help. Let me see if I can explain this. If your CPU goes 100MH, your ram goes 100MPH, and your 4350 goes 75MPH, obviously the slowest thing is the video card. Lets pretend that the 4650 also goes 100MPH, now everything is "matched". What happens however if you put in a 125MPH 4670? Or a 150MPH 4770/4850? Those cards won't be able to travel that fast because the 100MPH CPU/RAM won't let it. The 4770/4850 will spend a lot of time waiting for information from the CPU. Whats worse is that you could have saved a lot of money when you bought the card and spend less on electricity if you had bought the 4650 in the first place.

The next problem is the question of whether or not its worth buying the 4650. If the 4350 goes 75MPH and the 4650 goes 100, would you even notice the extra speed. I'm not familiar with the 4350 so I'm not sure how good a card it is. Nor do we know the resolution at which you play games at. Yes the 4650 is a better card, but only spend the $$$ if its so much better you'd be able to see/feel it. (and your system can handle it.)
