Compare the warranty, if they are both the same, compare prices. There is no set rule for what is a better quality drive. Basically you will just get individual peoples personal exp with them which depending on the time of day posted could be completely different.

Hi, I'm a computer Tech, and from my experience I would stick with Western digital since they have less failure rate.

But then again go on newegg.com and look at the comments and rating.

WD 500 gb are really good while some 1 tb are bad.(green blue and black)

For portable HD I recommend mybook( I got 500 gb, 1 tb and 2 tb).

I have a few and no problem what so ever. I do back up for client when I need to reformat so I use them regularly
(still going after 2-3 years)

It's personal preference, really. People say WD is great. In my experience, WD sucks. My first WD drive failed so I never buy WD again. Some people do not even consider HITACHI drives. It had been my primary drive for 4 years before I recently switched to SSDs. It's still running with no problem. Been using cheap seagate drives at work. I haven't had any problems. HDDs are like people. Sometimes, you get a good one. Sometimes bad. Doesn't matter what race they are or where they were born.
