Best board cpu combo for gaming

Hi guys
My father wanted to upgrade my system as a birthday gift. What is a top notch board and cpu combo for max res in games?
Also I guess i would need ram.
I don't recall what I currently have but it's about 2 years old. He offered so i figured i would take the offer..

Thing is, as you get into higher resolutions, the CPU isn't taxed nearly as hard. So for example, if you play at say 4k resolutions, a Ryzen 1600X is pretty much equal to the 8700K (for most titles).

But if you plan on running high refresh rate 1080P or 1440P, nothing beats the I7 8700K with a Z370 motherboard. I recommend the Z370 Hero from Asus if you want a top of the line motherboard, but a top of the line motherboard isn't necessary.

A lot LOL, basically anything in the $200+ range is quite good.

You can go AMD, but Intel is better in the gaming department. AMD is slightly better at productivity stuff.

Im a pretty casual gamer.. do you think I would notice the difference? I may play a bit on weekends. I was more hardcore at one point when I had more time.

Unless you want crazy high fps (above 100fps), then no you won't.
