So i'm pulling my hair out. I have a youtube channel and I record gameplays with fraps. Now, interestingly for a while fraps clips worked perfectly fine with windows movie maker. After upgrading to windows 10 however, movie maker won't take fraps clips of any kind.

But who cares about movie maker anyway. I should be using better software. So I picked up the free version of lightworks, and let me tell you I LOVE that program. Beautiful interface. But the problem is (again) it doesn't seem to play well with frap's bizarre output format. My videos come out in barely presentable quality. Also, lightworks free version only gives me 720p mp4 which comes out like shite. First it was shakiness, now it's frames repeating all over the place. I can't spend $427 on the pro version. I'll also point out that the fraps clips themselves come out in perfect, beautiful 1080p quality. The problem is just outputting that quality.

So based on this guide http://www.tomsguide.com/us/best-video-editing-software,review-2167.html i'm thinking of trying out cyberlink powerdirector, adobe premiere elements 13, or i'll probably give blender a try. If I can meet my minimal needs with a free program that's great if not i'd gladly drop up to $70 on some software that won't fail me as much.

My needs are as follows:
1.) Has to be friendly enough with frap's output format to edit clips without crashes and be able to export in clean 720p 30fps minimum. I don't need 1080p 60fps... Just CLEAN 720p would make me so happy. I work really hard on my videos.

2.) Must be able to keyframe images and animations on-screen via keyframing layers, as well as some simple animation options such as using image opacity to fade images or clips in and out.

3.) Split, trim, and insert clips.

4.) Support for multiple audio layers. At least 3.

Here's an example link to one of my recent videos edited with lightworks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6O7213-UtvI Amazingly windows movie maker has given me better quality output options than lightworks "free"

If you could pinpoint a screen recording application that outputs an editing friendly format with solid quality i'd gladly switch. Any in particular?

I'll give Raptr a try again. I remember when it first came out it had a lot of weird issues. I'll report back here when I test it out with lightworks. If it outputs from lightworks smoothly then my issue is likely solved, if not i'll probably want a new editor.

I am unbelievably impressed with how far Raptr has come with it's recording software. My framerate hardly budges at all compared to how fraps dropped me 30 frames while recording. Quality is beautiful 1080p and in a friendly youtube format.

Now the only thing is lightworks free version still does not like these clips. All sorts of issues. I'm starting to think lightworks is more designed for video camera footage editing with constant framerates. I ended up downloading the trial version of adobe premiere elements 13 and i'm really liking it's simplicity. I imported some clips and then exported and yay. The capture quality is perfect after exporting. So it would seem my issue here is resolved.
