The submission period is now over. Please cast your vote here.

We recently updated our rules for Best PC Builds. m-ITX builds no longer require WiFi. Please see below for our full list of rules.

The Best PC Builds. Our title is practically self-explanatory. Unlike the System Builder Marathon, these configurations are not chosen by Tom's Hardware's editors. They are submitted and selected by our forum members based on defined pricing tiers. Every so often, we ask the community for its help picking parts based on performance and features for the price.

It's a new year and while certain parts of the industry could be labeled as stagnant, *cough* CPU architectures *cough*, there has been drastic progress in form factors and distribution. With the introduction of "mini" sized graphics cards such as the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 Mini ITX and the ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1060 Mini, as well as the near standard requisite of space for full sized graphics cards, the mini-ITX form factor is now a viable form factor for any budget. The coming advent of true on-demand streaming from the likes of Nvidia further solidifies the mainstreaming of m-ITX. And so, for the first time ever, mini-ITX and SFX builds may compete in every single budget category. Are you up to the challenge?

The voting period will run until Wednesday, February 22nd, so be sure to vote for your best build by that date. Click on this link to vote for your favorite build in each category.

This thread is for the $1,500 budget category. Please only submit builds within the $1,500 budget category to this thread. All other builds will be disqualified.

Here are the ground rules:

  • Only one build per budget category, per user. Multiple builds from a single user or duplicate accounts will be disqualified.
    ■Do not go over budget.
■Use only Amazon OR Newegg to source parts.
■Use list prices only: coupons, rebates, bundles or any other limited-time offers will not be accepted.
■Do not include shipping or tax in your final budget.
■Do not include the Operating System, Monitor or VR Headset, Keyboard, Mouse or Gamepad.
■Do not put your forum handle in the name of your build, and avoid odd capitalizations & symbols.
Provide links to the Amazon or Newegg product pages of each component — we encourage users to use PCPartPicker's System Build for speedy construction. Do not post a link to your build, but rather please be sure to export as BBCode for a quick copy/paste to the forums.

Quick update from the Tom's Hardware Editor in Chief, Fritz Nelson:

NOTES:

1. The concept is to create a versatile Xeon / ECC / Quadro precision workstation at reasonable cost, suitable for reliable 2D and 3D CAD design / drafting plus graphic design. With a GPU of similar cost substitution (Quadro to GTX), the system would have strong performance in GPU rendering and video editing / processing.

2. The Xeon E3-1240 v5 4C @ 3.5 /3.9GHz has a Passmark average CPU rating of 10408 compare to i7-7700 at 10486 and importantly, a single-thread rating of 2224- higher than any Xeon E5 and comparable to i7-4770 at 2228. CPU rendering power would be modest speed, but completely reliable.

3. The Quadro M2000 4GB 128-bit GDDR5 / 768 CUDA cores 75W single slot uses the GM206GL GPU (GM206 is also used in GTX 960) and has a memory bandwidth of 106GB/s. Higher core and memory clock speed give the M2000 a 3D rating of 4346, compare to Firepro W8000 ($1,048) at 4206 and Quadro K4200 4GB ($839) at 4444. The Quadro strongly supports OpenGL and viewports and so is useful for Solidworks, 3ds Max, Rhino, and Maya. The 30-bit color depth and higher anti-aliasing using NVDIA partner drivers, important in animation and professional graphic design.

Be aware that there is a replacement for the Quadro M2000 available in March, 2017, for a price similar to the M2000 4GB, the Quadro P2000 , which is only 8 months old. The Pascal P2000- an unusual 160-bit /5GB design- has 1.6X performance on the M2000, in some tests is scoring similarly to a GTX 980, and faster than an M5000 8GB- a $1,900 GPU. See: "NVIDIA Announces Quadro P4000, P2000, P1000, P600,& P400". So, Pascal is really waking up Quadros!

4. If the use involved video editing and /or GPU processing / rendering, and suitable for a fairly high level of gaming, the Quadro M2000 is substituted with a GTX 1070 8GB / 1,920 CUDA cores. The Passmark 3D average =10962) for $420 Simultaneously, the RAM should be increased to 32GB or better, the maximum 64GB.

Name of Build : Bleeding Frost
Personal reason for build : Not a computer to be kept under a desk, the visual is designed to be fit of the rest of the art in a room, not just hardware for gaming , but a solid system with a flair.
Concept : The Chilled System hums, Frosty cold, the front large fan pushes cool air over the frosty hardware, as it powers thru the demand of the user, it generates heat, the rear and upper fan disposing of this heat outwards, keeping the system frosty cold, hued in the escaping heat from the case, making the shimmering red light looks like the frosty system is bleeding red.
