Best Buy's idea of a gaming system......

Sad part is I was just messing around on newegg, priced up a similar system using an Athlon x2 5200+, Acer LCD 19inch widescreen monitor, Vista, 9600gt video card, price came out to 895 something shipped, with OS, speakers, everything. Kinda sad. If people knew how to build...the money they could save.....

That's why i get lots of business, I can build better [in terms of quality, and give ppl better value than those other guys] When of course they are looking for more power and or gmaing perfromance.

Just kinda sad. Best buy has good deals on some stuff, but I almost don't like going in there sometimes now. You want to gag half the time if you look at video cards or something b/c you see what you can get on newegg vs best buy's price, and a lot of times it's like half the price.

Best Buy, one of the very last places on earth anyone should go PC shopping.
You know, several years ago (like 10 maybe?) they weren't too bad.
I used to buy a lot of hardware from Best Buy.
But anymore, they are more into the home entertainment package/console games/cell phones and mp3 thing.
The whole PC department, along with the pre-builds and hardware they stock has really hit rock bottom. They don't have crap, and what they do have IS crap.

My dad went to Best Buy to replace his old PC. He actually thought about me visiting and playing games from time to time, so he asked for one that could play newer games ok (He should have just asked me but he would never do that).

The little pricks sold him an Hp with INTEGRATED GRAPHICS, assuring him it would "play anything". I don't have the heart to tell him that's not true.

To make matters worse they filled it up with software he didn't need and charged him an arm and a leg to install it. Now - my dad is pretty old; he really doesn't know what's going as far as PC tech goes. The original cost of the PC was $599. I saw the reciept - the final total was around $1050 (no monitor included).

They completely screwed him over. They took advantage of an old man who didn't know any better.

I'm never setting foot in Best Buy again.

:pfff: see that's the kind of stuff I hate to have to hear,

that's why when I worked on the floor as a salesperson at tigerdirect, I never sold anybody anything they didn't need. I helped as much as i could and i often got in trouble with mangement for going the extra mile... people would buy warranties from me not b/c they needed it but b/c they appreciated the work I did, and the amount of time I spent with them..overall I hated the quotas...and the changing corporate mentality, so when the management changed I guess i was the first to go..oh well, but I hate when you have to push somehting upon somebody when all they need/want is the truth and the best solution for them... :non:

oh well though...I'm gonna try my best not to have to work in that kind of situation again! :pfff:

If that wasn't bad enough...have you ever even talked to one of those "Geek Squad" guys? Wow...seriously? My 3 year old niece knows more about computers than those guys.

Okay here it goes. Modify the PSU/CPU/Mobo/RAM just a little and you'll easily come down to the $1000 price tag on BB. I know it's not rocket science to us, but the uniformed will buy it based on their statements and stickers :( This is how they screw the person that doesn't know any better.

you have to take a look at the reviews this system is getting. Either bb is writing its own reviews or people are just that stupid.

I am afraid your suspicions are correct, bb's customers are that stupid.
Also, I built a better pc than that for a friend last week for only $680 (course he's not that close of a friend so I charged him $120 :kaola:, still $800 for what he got was not half bad).

Wow LOL, Best Buy is a JOKE. I used to work for them back before the Geek Squad took over the black shirt techs. They are just price gougers now, they sell what they must at cost "i.e. Game consoles, games, cds, etc. Now you check their DDR2 prices? WOW 109.99 for a 1gb ddr 2 800 mhz chip. Amazingly every other place on Earth is 20 bucks! Sure sounds like a Best Buy to me!!! Idiots, all best buy is now is a glorified RADIO SHACK, get you in there with cool stuff and try to sign you up for VERIZON.

Not to mention the magazines they try to sign you up for at the counter, orrr have you take the latest survey, orr enter the latest contest. LOL Anybody seeing a pattern? They sold out as soon as they could. Even their car audio is ridiculously over priced, with installation from insuffiently trained " techs ".

Well listen guys, when buying a system from a retail chain such as BestBuy they need decent profits to account for their expenses. Newegg sells off name brands which look for less profits, and have far less overhead. If somebody is a complete noob and is looking to buy something in a store for convenience, which they can buy same day, plug in and everything works it works out. Especially since they have somewhere to go if there are any problems.

A college professor of mine said something that always stuck with me "never underestimate the ignorance of american shoppers"
