currently im building a new gaming rig, and i have chosen 2x evga geforce 9800gtx+ for about 130 a card without tax... i was looking at the gtx series, the 275 or higher... which would be better for the price? i plan on gaming with this rig for the next 2 years without having to upgrade the gpus.. figured dual cards would be better in the long run for the newer more demanding games that are to come.

twin 4870's would be ur best bet, i belive you can pick em up now for like $150, you didn't mention that you can't crossfire... if you go the nvidia route a couple of 900gtx+'s will equal around a 280, and that you can pick up for $225, so a single card may be actually cheaper

Iv been reading and iv heard nothing bad about the gtx series, hearing that the 275 or higher dominates dual 9800GTX+... so i think ima just go with a single of those for now... i can always get dual gtx 275's or higher :) haha thats just overkill though

For a new rig, I'd go for either the GTX275 or HD4890, depending on motherboard (or if it's X58, your preferance).
I'll also suggest you look to EVGA, XFX or BFG, all have top notch warranties and some of the best support in the business, useful for a long term ownership.

naw, two 9800GTXs will not be dominated buy a single GTX275. It would be dominated by two GTX275s

2x9800GTXs > GTX285 > GTX280 >/~ GTX275

Thanks guys, im defently getting the gtx 200 series... no games atm really need dual cards to be ran at full, as long as ya got good Ram etc to backup the card... by next year new games and video demands will be out and thats about when ill go dual with them so i should be fine for a few years easy... there just so many different models idk which is best for my price range.. and i want it to look sweet(color match) my mobo... reason i was going evga to match the mobo
