Looking to upgrade my graphics this Black Friday specifically for playing DayZ. Right now I'm running a HD 7770. Typically when I upgrade I go by this site to see what the best bang for my buck would be. I'm looking in the 150-200 range so my top 2 choices are either an R9 285/380 or GeForce GTX 960. The only thing I've heard is that Nvidia typically runs DayZ better than AMD. Any truth behind that?

Dayz is the game that caused me to upgrade my whole computer as it's so CPU demanding. I was using an old Intel dual core with a R7 250 and had no problems with games like GTA 4, CSGO. Then I got Dayz and just couldn't run it, fps was low and then it would freeze up. When I upgraded my computer I used the R7 250 in it for a couple of weeks, in Dayz I was getting playable fps. I then upgraded to a R9 290X and can max out all the settings.

So what I learnt about Dayz is it requires a good CPU and only a medium GPU, I would've thought a HD 7770 would be perfectly fine.
i have a gtx 980 and a 4790k as does a friend of mine and day z standalone runs very badly. in some areas fps drops to 20s with maxed settings however when i lower certain settings slightly i get 50+ usually,

hes right that cpu power will mainly hold you back with that game but its also a poorly running game

I'm running a 4790k as well, so I thought it could be my graphics that cause my fps to drop here and there. Honestly it hasnt been that bad, but I would just prefer something a little better than what I have.
