Hello guys, i'm bought MSI GTX 960 2GB, i'm thinking of buying used i3-i5 2nd/3rd generation only, because budget is small. Would be ok with i3-2120 ? I know that won't be perfect, but still would be so bad ?or i5-2400 would be enough ?
And last question abot ram, would be enough of 8gb ram in 2 years ? or i need 16gb ram, because i saw on e3 very beautifull games like watch dogs 2 and i think that they need 16gb ram. Your thougths ?

Yes the i3 and 960 are a good match perfect for gaming at high med high settings, online in large multiplayer games you might find things slow down a bit, but all in all you should really enjoy it. When you say double the price for the i5 2400 what is the price on the i3?
Hi,

A i3 2120 for the 960 would be great but it will still cause a bit of bottlenecking. If you choose to get the 2400, there will be no bottlenecks. As for the ram, 4 GBs of ram is enough for almost every game out there atm. 8 GB will most likely not be outdated in two years. 16 GBs for a pc is a little overkill. 1 to 3 gbs wouldn't be used to their full potential.

How much money are you looking to spend? Perhaps low end new could be feasible.

I would opt for the I5 2400 until you get to at least Haswell the i3's didn't offer as much performance as the lowest clocked i5's

I asked about the budget, the i3 6100 is a great gaming cpu better than the i5 2400 by a decent amount.

But if cash is short, With the i3 2120 you will not have a fps bottleneck @ 1080p, once you begin playing games online however you may experience substantial drops in fps as the cpu has to address more tasks

Yes, the i5 2400 would be the best if you are looking for better performance. If you instead choose to buy the i3 2120, try to keep watch of the temperatures, because the i3 will be most likely running at around 100% to try to keep up with the 960.

No it likely wont the 960 isnt really that fast of a card, when playing online multiplayer games it shouldn't be an issue.

I assumed that you wanted the i5 for games AND some editing, my mistake. If you just want the pc to play some games, go ahead and buy the i3.

In my country seller with high reputation, i3 2120 selling for 30 eur while i5 2400 selling for 60 eur, so eah double price but only little performance increase.

Yeah that will depend on the game, 30 for the i3 vs 60 for the i5 spend the money, on average the performance will be worth it. Those prices make the i5 the better option get that and feel satisfied

What about future games ? Like now witcher 3 says it needs very powerful cpu, but even i3 2120 can make ~50 fps on high so i dnot understand. Could i3 2120 run games like watch dogs 2 or wildlands ?

just get the i3 if you are only going to use it for games. Yes, some games might say they need a more powerful cpu, but really it doesn't matter too much.
