Hi guys just a quick question based on your experience when is the best time to buy computer components? Is cyber Monday the best or does it really matter?

Thanks for the help

In theory, tomorrow, "Cyber Monday" should be a good time to buy. However, you never know what sales you might find. Newegg and Amazon have had some great deals, but for Black Friday, I wasn't impressed with Newegg, hoping CM will be better. I'm looking for a good price on either a R9 290 or a R9 380X.

jet.com....hahaha

When I first started seeing those ads, I checked and compared.
Every single item I looked at was the same or higher price than elsewhere.
For instance....a Samsung 850 Pro 512GB SSD. Exact same price as Amazon, $211.

They offer exactly squat.

i know their normal price is high but after the promo its a slickdeal!

It's really a roll of the dice. Black friday and cyber monday or cyber week or whatever term they decide to use can have good sales. Sometimes they don't. It depends on the parts you want and knowing price history to determine if a deal is good or not.

For instance buying a cpu over black friday, if you were looking at unlocked intel i5's or i7's you could find some decent sales on the 4th gen 4690k and 4790k. If you were hoping to grab skylake up for a bargain before xmas there was little joy since they didn't go on sale. Some parts that get heavily discounted depends on brand. If you're looking for an ssd, the 'great' deals with heavy discounts are typically the mid to lower end ssd's rather than the top performers. Samsung evo's did go on sale but weren't as huge of a 'bargain' as slower budget ssd's in terms of price per gb.

I'd agree with USAFRet, I've found some incredible deals in like late february for no apparent reason. Better than black fri or cyber monday but limited to a part here or a part there rather than '1,000 items 20% off' type of sale that black fri is. If the part I needed or wanted wasn't included in the mass sale it doesn't do much. It can also get people hyped into settling for lower performing components than they would have otherwise just because it was on sale or a better sale. Whether or not to compromise is up to the individual though.

It's sort of like wanting to get a samsung 850 evo 240gb ssd. Then black fri or cyber monday rolls around and there's a sale on a 240gb or 500gb ssd but it's an adata or sandisk drive with lower performing specs. Maybe it's a good deal, maybe it's not.

I was fairly impressed so much I upgraded and have a full gaming PC to sell after the upgrades, old PC will sell for 600/700 quick from this post. http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2876716/worth-gaming.html
I needed the i7 really bad for the work programs I'm using. After selling the old PC the total upgrade cost will be in the 200 buck area.
Upgrades I made for a total of $937 with 70 bucks in rebates still pending, shipping cost included.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2xxNdC (the new memory goes in the PC I'm selling)
Puts me at a i7 4790k (from a i5 2500K) 16GB of 2133 memory a GTX 980 (from a 7970 sold my 970's), R1 CPU cooler, 500GB SSD 250GB SSD 64GB SSD scratch drive 2X 1TB hard drives 500GB hard drive and a 1TB External drive for stuff I can't loose.
Newegg is sold out of a lot of stuff so they will need to list new items.

For what I was looking for the sales were not much different than what I see any other week of the year. $20 off here or there, or the items weren't the right ones to start with. I'm hoping Newegg will have what I'm looking for tomorrow. However, I spent about $800 on Amazon on Friday on various items (not just PC components) that had some serious sales, i.e. wall mount for a 55" TV for $49.99 that was regular price of $200.

I've never bought off of newegg this will be my first build so I'm wondering if I should try and buy all off one site or piece it out from various sites which would be somewhat cheaper?

The GTX 980 video card was 409 after the 30 buck rebate very hard to beat. http://www.newegg.com/Product/MappingPrice2012.aspx?Item=N82E16814127834

You just need to look for hidden shipping cost and avoid places like superbizz and outlet PC their processing and shipping can take a few weeks.
Newegg has the best RMA service and very quick to get you your parts about the only other place I would buy from is Amazon.
If you live close to a microcenter then they have some good in store pick up sales, but that makes you pay sales tax so it can be iffy if it's the best buy.

If the price difference is only a few dollars I tend to stick with one vendor. If there's a $20+ price difference I've used multiple vendors. So far I've had good luck with newegg, tigerdirect, amazon, ncixus. Amazon I tend to get good service, shipping time/cost isn't usually an issue but I'm a prime member so that helps.

The biggest headache of ordering is the final delivery since ups and fedex both seem to have issues locating my house. I've had them leave packages with various neighbors, on the porch of two different vacant homes, file a 'missed delivery' without even making a delivery attempt multiple times. They claimed they couldn't see my address so I made a custom house number with 24-30" tall numerals. They still can't find it. Hard to believe in this day and age two of the biggest logistics companies in the nation, neither has gps in their vehicles. Oh well.
